It’s the bees knees! - First handmade subpixel type family, ever

File:Subpixel demonstration (Quartz).png

Subpixel rendering is a way to increase the apparent resolution of a computer's liquid crystal display (LCD) by rendering pixels to take into account the screen type's physical properties. It takes advantage of the fact that each pixel on a color LCD is actually composed of individual red, green, and blue subpixel stripes to anti-alias text with greater detail.

the bees knees!

It has x-height of 3 pixels, it is italic, inspired by old masters and most important – made by hand. You must not look too closely, because colors get visible. It’s work in progress. Here:

Today we can officially unveil the cover for our next book, Rework. It’ll be in your favorite bookstore on March 9, 2010. You can also pre-order it today on Amazon.com so you’ll be one of the first to have it.

We’re thrilled with the design. Simple, bold, and memorable. Hats off to the designers at Crown (our publisher) who indulged us, put up with us, and, in the end, crafted a beautiful design.

The front.
